Why do people alway's sound surprised when the word DRUGS is mentioned sadly it does go on in most places these day's even in our own villages, not only drugs but drink play's a big part in this,as one tends to lead to them trying the other.I think it is sad that school's do not get the local police involved more to teach the affect's it has on whole communities and people's lives, the longer we ignore it the worst it will get.The council can also help with education of substance abuse,it is a fact that drug use went up considerably when we had the so called traveller's camp on our doorstep,I actually witnessed a deal going on between a traveller and a group of youth's from our village, but the police obviously did nothing to prevent this.If the traveller's site is put on our doorstep permantly then expect this problem to grow, after all all our children could be affected..

Drugs are a part of every day life now for a lot of people. There are however still a large number of people who haven't dabbled. I and my family are one of those. (When I refer to drugs, I am talking about those which are illegal to possess under the misuse of drugs act 1971, not alcohol or tobacco). I agree that the misuse of drugs has a major impact on communities, for example theft to feed the habit and ASB when the users are on it. Education is a start to try to tell the youngsters of today what perils lie ahead if they start, but this should start at home. The schools have a difficult enough job and although this should be part of the curriculum to raise awareness, I don't think there is enough time or resources to make a difference. Dorset Police have very few school liaison officers but are willing to come and talk to groups if asked. If you have any info about drugs, however small, I suggest you either call the police or crimestoppers. Thanks, SH

I agree with you education should start at home and i for one do talk about the danger's of drug use to my children, and i know there are people who don't dabble as my family also have not touched drug's.Ther is alot of pot smoking going on in the village and as someone who has worked with addict's know it can lead to harder thing's and also mental health problem's.I have also noted that heavy drinking is also highly addictive and can cause just as much trouble, the only thing is it is accepted and people forget that it is also a killer in the long run....

I agree the risk of drug's need to be taught to our children.I also agree that the problem's drinking cause should be taught as well, living in a family where thier is an alcaholic youlearn that this has just as big impact on families as drug's.Alcohol is easy to get and people don't seem ro realise that it can kill and harm just as drug's do.The drink can quite easily lead to bigger thing's and i am quite amazed how many youngster's seem to be under the influence of alcohol these day's,do parent's not care what happen's to thier children.Drink and drug's also can lead to violence all the attacks on people on the new's etc is very worrying and as the law does nothing to combat these problem's then surely parent's should.I have also seen a lot of pot smoking going on in the village, and i have heard that there is alot worse being used as well...

Pot is a very common drug nowadays unfortunately. The government didn't do themselves any favours when they reclassified it to a class C drug. A lot of people think this makes it legal to possess, but this is not the case. It is still an offence to possess cannabis and can lead to arrest and conviction. The usual method to deal with it is to issue a street warning on the first occasion when it's being used for personal. There are a number of factors however which often lead to arrest on the first occasion of being caught. It is a known fact that cannabis leads to permanent damage of the brain and often, as pointed out, the kick you get from it becomes less as the user becomes more tolerable and this is when people dabble with harder drugs and the crime cycle starts. Often this begins with stealing money from home to fund their habit, but then it gets worse and worse and before you know it, you are a junkie, injecting yourself with what you believ eto be heroin but infact it can be all manner of things, including ajax (if you can remember what that was!), brick dust, rat poison, flour and anything else that the dealers can bulk up their supplies with.
Alcohol has it's enemies too. We all enjoy a tipple at times, me included, but it's sad and dare I say it so unecessary when people drink to excess, cause damage and misery to others and then wake up in the morning with no recollection of what happened the night before. Alcoholism is a disease which ruins many peoples lives and their families. Binge drinking is not a disease and should be dealt with more harshly by the courts, not only by prosecuting the offenders but by prosecuting those who supply excessive amounts to them. SH

I have been in treatment for drink and drug's and have seen first hand what the affect's are on the individual and families.People alway's think that drink is not an addictive type of drug but i assure you it is just as distructive as any drug and can also kill.I have lost a number of friends due to drink and drug's over the year's and i do notice youngster's these day's high and drunk around the village which is a shame as they just don't realise how much harm they are doing to themslves and the people around them. The drug problem has certainly got worse not just in our villages but in general and i'm afraid i can only see it continuing. The teaching of the affect's should definately start at home and if parent's find this difficult there is plenty of help from organisations if needed,so please don't be afraid to use them it's best to try and nip it in the bud before it is too late.S

How on earth has the housing been allowed at the station, the land is conservation and it affect's a listed building but yet again a builder asks for it and they get it,nothing funny going on,how about the individuals when will they be allowed to get planning when there is a cash incentive maybe,or we can offer a piece of land for the community and then use it for lpg tanks which take up all the land. These builder's seem to get everything, but joe bloggs get sod all.D

Once again any planning in FV is refused, this does seem very unfair one rule for one and one for another, and neither of them builder's surprise surprise.D

Was it because the houses next to station road that have been approved are in MN that they get passed it must have the right post code.
By Anonymous, at Tuesday, 11 July, 2006
I agree the planning is a joke large sites are passed but the small plots are refused,i have noticed as well that usually the builder's get it passed without much fuss seem's strange.P

Who's the mindless idiot who keeps turning the road signs around on the approach to MN from the A37?
By Anonymous, at Thursday, 20 July, 2006
I don't know, but we all have to make our own amusement in the country.
I suspect that he or she is waiting for his or her jolly jape to be mentioned on the Blog before desisting.

Amusement? This could lead to far worse things. Next they will be placing roadworks signs in the carriageway for a laugh....... remember what happened on Portland when this happened, killing two innocent girls on their way home.....

It seems the blog and the MN website have been all but been forgotten. Whats happened to them both? A bit like the skate park that was on, then not and I suppose the MUGA will go the same way, not wanting to be a sour puss or anything!

Yes well I am sorry about the web site. I have been very busy (writing the River Cottage Mushroom Book) and it is the holidays! Also I have set up a new computer and all the web stuff is still on the old one. Still, it is not forgotten and will be updated in the next week.
Incidently the MUGA was approved at a special Parish Council meeting last night. Only just though. Three councillors for it, three abstentions and one against! The funding seems settled though not confirmed. It comes to about £70,000! I doubt if it will turn into another skate park. Skate parks have always been notorious white elephants and the MUGA is supported by and very near to the school.

How is it that FV is now a car park for MN busineses,I know parking is a shortage but please keep your own vehicles in your part of the village we don't want them we have enough vehicles of our own....
By Anonymous, at Saturday, 07 October, 2006
I agree why do MN use our end of the village as a bloody car park.If they build all these new houses in MN they should pay the price with the parking not FV no wonder there is a devide when we get all the cr-p pushed down our end.....
By Anonymous, at Sunday, 08 October, 2006

is the blog ever going to be updated or has it been stopped?????????
By Anonymous, at Wednesday, 21 March, 2007
Thanks for the push in the right direction. Blogger has changed a bit and I had not got round to registering on to the new system.
I have had the usual computer problems (hard disc failure) and have been very busy so have not had time to devote to the blog or websites. Will be posting new stuff very soon though.
Finally I will be disposing of the blog altogether soon and replacing it with a forum. This will suite discussion much better.
