Suggest a new subject

Sue has suggested a general page where new subjects can be introduced. So here it is. Use it to suggest topics which can then have their own thread. Remember this is a public blog so if you register you will be able to start topics, not just comment. I am still wondering if a discussion group format would be better. Please let me know what you think.

  • I did see the comment's made about certain village services and made my own comment.I feel that the Blog is working well, but because a certain person or person's complained about it comment's were removed.I hope this does not put people off using the Blog as i still think it is a good way of getting the veiws of local people across. It's a shame that some people can't seem to cope with negative comment's as well as good ones, but i suppose that's life, and as i said yesterday we need all veiw's to make village life better for all.I do feel that maybe this will be seen as a biased act but please keep using it as we all have a right to our comment's.ST

  • Could someone tell me if there is anybody who is supposed to clear litter from the river?I have done it myself on a few occasions as it is dangerous to animals etc and looks terrible for everyone.ST

  • How about a topic on policing,or the seemingly lack of it.....

By Anonymous Anonymous, at Thursday, 20 April, 2006

  • We could do with better security at the school it is so easy for anybody to get into the playground which usually has people urinating in the wooded part of the grounds, and alot of noise late at night from other parts. The litter is awful by the step's,there should be more bin's around the village in general.P

  • Has the MN website been put into 2nd place as a result of the MN&FV blog? It hasn't been updated for over a fortnight! Can the links at the top of the page be rearranged so you can read all of each link?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at Saturday, 22 April, 2006

  • It hasn't really been put into second place. Mostly I have been too busy with a new course I have started to run for RiverCottage HQ (its about seaweed and coastal plants if you are interested) and the web site has suffered rather. Sorry about that. I will spend an hour tonight updating it. I have a great article by Andrew Williams on the architecture of the village and I will try to sort it out over the weekend. With the new rail/bus timetable out I will be reintroducing the Transport page. This was an important part of the old website but a nightmare to keep up to date.
The links at the top are a bit of a headache. On my browsers only the first one is forshortened - it appears as "Maiden Newton &" losing the Frome Vauchurch. If only the two villages were called Eype and Plush or somesuch it would be OK! I could change it to MN&FV but it is inextricably tied to the name of the home page and would affect the Google ranking. The only way is to change the whole format which is not difficult but most of the ones I have available in my editor (NetObjects Fusion) I don't like or produce similar, mostly worse, problems. If it is affecting the other tabs on other browsers do let me know. Having said all that I have just thought of a possible workround - I'll try it tonight.
Finally I encourage everyone to send me articles, news, ideas, old photos, etc. which I can publish on the web site. This would make it more of a joint effort and more interesting.

  • Great, I look forward to it. I think it's a brilliant source of local information. Thanks John, I appreciate you are a busy man!

  • What can be done about the parking situation in the village particularly those who flout the law and park illegally. It is unfortunate that illegal parking is no longer a remit of the police, this being done now by the council (and they do a good job but as with too many public services, there are not enough indians and far too many chiefs!). The double yellow lines along Dorchester Road at teh junction with Bull Lane are regularly abused. I have personally seen three very near misses here with vehicles skidding to a halt to avoid a collision. The problem is not excess speed of vehicles on Dorchester Road, it's down to visibility reduced to next to zero because people are too lazy to find a safe and legal place to park and walk to their destinations. (if this isn't the reason, perhaps those responsible can enlighten me!)

  • Regarding the double yellow lines, I personally witnessed an incident on friday when there was a very near miss at the Bull Lane turning, this was caused by an elderly driver pulling out of Bull Lane without looking to see whether there was any traffic approaching. Luckily this just lead to screeching brakes and hooting. The double yellow lines were clear. Deb

  • Does anybody know what is happening about the skate park or the bike track and come to think of it the shelter? The shelter i hope will be put in MN maybe in church road,as there is enough in FV,as this was suggested by a MN resident it would make sense....

By Anonymous Anonymous, at Sunday, 23 April, 2006

  • I would like to agree with the comment's made about the school,it is getting a regular thing now using the school playground as a toilet and worse, when will something be done about it.The new course sounds good John and hope it all goes well,i don't know how you fit everything in,many thanks.ST

  • I've heard that the skate park is no more as there are not enough volunteers to run it and the insurance is too high. The BMX track is also on hold at the moment too. It may be resurrected if the sports court gets the go ahead. Without wishing to put a dampers on anything, if the skate park is no longer used and the BMX track hasn't begun, oh and the shelter appears to have been forgotten, how long before we have a multi purpose sports pitch no longer in use?

  • The dog problem is getting really stupid now, another day of nice weather but can't sit up the garden as people's dog's just constantly barking.I think we should have a name and shame policy around the village because a few inconsiderate people are ruining it for other's.K

By Anonymous Anonymous, at Saturday, 29 April, 2006

  • How about some pictures of FV ?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at Tuesday, 02 May, 2006

  • The parking problem gathers momentum, not only were they parking at the junction of Bull Lane on Dorchester Road obscuring vision to the right, last night there was a people carrier to the left. Talk about cannon fodder from both directions............

By Anonymous Anonymous, at Friday, 05 May, 2006

  • The parking is getting worse especially outside the paper shop there will be a bad accident there soon...

By Anonymous Anonymous, at Monday, 08 May, 2006

  • Perhaps someone could invent a double yellow line system with spikes!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at Monday, 08 May, 2006

  • I know i have asked before but does anybody know where i could get some old photo's of FV have tried a few sites etc but still unable to find any, many thanks.ST

  • I think we should have a page on where the hell the council get thier planner's from, maybe they should leave it to the resident's who actually live in the bloody village's and not some idiot who doesn't know his arse from his elbow.....

By Anonymous Anonymous, at Thursday, 11 May, 2006

  • All of these comments have a time on them, can you add the date too John so we can tell how recent they are? Cheers S

There has been alot of talk about the new pavement plans in FV and to be honest i'm not surprised, the council have obviously gone for the low cost option without any thought for the resident's and certainly not seen that the plan will just cause more problem's in the long run.The main issue will be the parking, yellow lines planned will just cause more car's to park in the school raod which is already congested, which is stupid as coaches for the school and lorries already have trouble, also this will just mean parent's picking up thier children will have to park further up the raod where there is also no pavement.Overall the plan's are a joke and the problem's it will cause outway the actual path.the resident's will also suffer as people will not be able to park outside thier houses causing a drop in value. The bank they were supposed to be taking and are now not will make the road so narrow that lorries will end up on the new pavement just to get by.The council should consider providing off road parking for the people who will lose out,but overall they should think more about getting it right rather than cost,if it were Frampton then cost would not come into it.ST

  • This is getting cluttered now and the very valid points raised do not follow. Can you put together some new threads? Ta

  • I find that these camper vans being inconsiderably park is a cause for concern. I watched while there was a very near miss near the cornershop due to a camper van being parked right on the corner, obstructing all view. This same camper appears outside the newsagent, the petit canard and then would you belive it, the car park. Oh miracles. Why these people cannot use the carpark continuously is beyond me. Its never full!

  • Can anyone tell me why MN/FV do not do more community spirited things such as fetes, plays, sport days, street partys etc. I appreciate these all may sound a bit dated, but surely communal spirit is what keeps a village alive.
Ive heard tales that these type of things used to happen but fights broke out.
Perhaps I was born to late and have a head too old for the rest of me.
    Traditionalist you see. :-)

By Anonymous Anonymous, at Friday, 21 July, 2006

  • I still think that parking should be banned fron the paper shop as it is getting bloody stupid now there are jams constantly and people park in the most stupid places, the council should certainly do something before there is a bad accidentS

By Anonymous Anonymous, at Friday, 21 July, 2006

  • The council will not stop parking there but if you want planning that is ok more traffic and more congestion they only deal with planning at the moment it seems and anybody in MN can get it.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at Saturday, 19 August, 2006

  • Any resonce from the Echo about planning?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at Wednesday, 06 September, 2006

  • If the people of Bull Lane parked in thier own drives the the residents of Dorchester Road can park correctly and safely and not get in the way, doesn't any realise that the cause of most of the parking and traffic problems is the very large amount of constuction traffic that use the Bull lane junction, its not the residents of Dorchester Road that cause the problems its the paper pushing, policticly correct waste of time planners ( I'm not allowed to say bribe taking am I, oops just said it ) please just think about it before you mouth off, maybe some yellow line outside your house with spikes on.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at Wednesday, 06 September, 2006

  • I agree with the comments made about the planners i have said this before. The council are just in it for money not for the tax paying residents who pay thier salaries unless you know someone not something you will never get planning or the congestion sorted.I have said all along if people can park off road then the council should help them get it not ignore it and not just let the large developments go through but individual house building they refuse nearly every application in FV but pass nearly all in MN we should form a group to monitor the planning decisions in our villages and we will soon see who gets what.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at Thursday, 07 September, 2006

  • How come some planning applications still not up on the MN/FV planning page yet any reason why?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at Sunday, 10 September, 2006

  • Someone mentioned a section on planning this seems a good idea as there is a lot of comments about it on the Blog.cop

By Anonymous Anonymous, at Wednesday, 13 September, 2006

  • Could you please tell me when the minutes will be done and why some comments have not been put on thanks PD

By Anonymous Anonymous, at Thursday, 05 October, 2006

  • Hedley Haward who kindly hosts MNPC web site for me is coming round today to try to fix the uploading problem I have been having. All being well the site will be updated over the weekend.

I always let as many comments through as I feel I reasonably can but some of the comments made recently have been offensive tirades against identifiable groups of people. Anonymous tirades at that. If the poster whoever he or she is would reword the post to exclude the Anglo Saxon and any other offensive remarks I will pass it.

By Blogger John, at Friday, 06 October, 2006

  • Are the minutes going to be updated or has the Blog been forgotten about?
